Route of the Week - 55

This week, we'll be exploring SEPTA's Route 55. The Route 55 is a City Bus Route that travels between Olney Transportation Center and Willow Grove, PA. The Route 55 was originally a trolley that operated from Broad & Olney Terminal to Willow Grove. Trolleys continued to run on this route until June 27, 1952 when buses replaced streetcars. The Route 55's service was extended to Doylestown in 1966 and then to Willow Grove Park Mall in 1982. In 1997, service was extended to the new Cross Keys Shopping Center, creating the route the 55 travels along today. 

On a typical weekday, the Route 55 carries 5,084 riders along it's 23 mile route. Each day, the Route 55 makes 154 round trips. totally about 7,115 miles daily. The Route 55 connects with the Broad Street Line and eight other SEPTA Bus Routes at Olney Transportation Center in North Philadelphia. The Route 55 also stops at shopping destinations like Willow Grove Park Mall and Cross Keys Shopping Center, making it a convenient bus to hop on for retail employees and shoppers.
