Fourth of July in Philly

June 28, 2017

There is A LOT going on in Philadelphia this Fourth of July this year! From a Phillies game to a Party on the Parkway to a spectacular fireworks finale, there’s something for everyone. And the best part of all - SEPTA can get you to all the festivities - and get you PERKS, too!

On July 4th at 4:05p, the Phillies take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citizen’s Bank Park. What better way to celebrate the birth of our nation than with America’s pastime? And you’ve got PERKS for this game! As a SEPTA Key or SEPTA Pass holder, you can get buy one, get one FREE tickets! Best way to Citizen Bank Park [and back] is the SEPTA Broad Street Line. Hop it south to AT&T Station and you’re there. Avoid the line – don’t forget you SEPTA Key!

If you prefer to spend your Independence Day learning about Philadelphia’s history as the birthplace of the nation, head to the Historic District. At the Betsy Ross House, you'll learn about her life as a flagmaker, upholsterer, and the experiences of women during America’s Revolutionary era. And check out this Perk for $1 off admission! After you see the Betsy Ross House, head over to Independence Mall and use your SEPTA Pass to get discounted admission to the National Constitution Center. Explore the interactive museum devoted to celebrating and explaining the United States Constitution. Getting to Philadelphia's Historic District is easy on SEPTA. Hop the Market-Frankford Line to 5th Street or Routes 17, 21, 33, 38, 42 or 48.

Over on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from 12p to 7p, Philadelphia comes together for the Party on the Parkway, featuring free entertainment including musical performances, dancing, children’s activities, food, and cultural events that celebrate the city’s diversity. The festivities on the Parkway all lead up to the Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert, the largest free outdoor concert in the country. Headlining the show will be R&B star Mary J. Blige, but the performances don’t stop there. The Parkway stage will also welcome the Philly POPs Big Band, jazz singer Tony DeSare, and Broadway star Mandy Gonzales. Boyz II Men will also make an appearance as the native Philadelphians are honored for their impressive careers.

At the end of the concert, the crowd can enjoy the Wawa Welcome Grand Finale Fireworks. Lighting up the sky over the Philadelphia Museum of Art, this firework show will take revelers on a 241-year journey from 1976 to 2017. In addition to the fireworks finale on the Parkway, there will also be the Freedom Festival Fireworks at Wiggins Park over the Delaware River. Snag a spot at Penn's Landing or Spruce Street Harbor Park for prime riverfront views of the 2nd-annual fireworks show.

Avoid traffic and parking and let SEPTA be your ride to all the Fourth of July fun. The Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line will be running with increased service before and after the festivities. Regional Rail will be running on a special schedule. Due to road closures, Bus Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, and 48 will operate on detour in the area surrounding the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
