PCA Annual Holiday Dinner

What do you do with 25 turkeys, 100 pounds of sweet potatoes and 70 pounds of green beans? Why not invite hundreds of your friends to a pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving dinner? And where do you host the guests? How about Jefferson Station?

On Sunday, 11/20, SEPTA hosted the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s (PCA) annual Thanksgiving dinner for older adults who might otherwise spend the holiday alone. This was the fifth year SEPTA hosted the dinner. The Thanksgiving at Jefferson Station is sponsored by PCA, SEPTA and the merchants of Reading Terminal Market. SEPTA officials were among those on hand to serve the traditional holiday meal to almost 400 invited guests at the Authority’s Jefferson Station. Guests were also be treated to dancing and door prizes. SEPTA staff were also available to take photos of any guests who have not yet had their photos taken for the new SEPTA Senior ID cards.

PCA has hosted Thanksgiving dinner for Philadelphia’s older adults since 2000. Dinner was donated by many Reading Terminal Market vendors. Marion “Tootsie Iovine” D'Ambrosio of Tootsie’s, one of the Reading Terminal Market vendors, arranged many of the details for the event. Other volunteers included members of local Girl Scout troops, seventh grade students from Our Mother of Consolation and members of the Penn Jersey Roller Derby.
