National Road Trip Day!

May 25, 2023

Friday, May 26 is National Road Trip Day! But be warned - driving long miles can effect your carbon footprint! An easy way to combat this is to ride public transportation!

Public transportation saves fuel, reduces an individual’s carbon footprint, and reduces congestion. Public transportation use by a solo commuter switching his/her commute from a private vehicle can reduce CO2 emissions by 20 pounds per day—more than 4,800 pounds in a year.

According to AAA, over 465,000 people in the Philadelphia area will travel at least 50 miles during the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend - which is near pre-pandemic levels. The good news is for or less than half of the cost of a gallon of gas, you can ride the Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line, Norristown High Speed Line, buses, and trolleys - to all of these places - and more!

And did you know SEPTA has one of the largest regional rail systems in North America - and is the only one with a downtown through-running tunnel? Making it easy to take a one-seat trip from Doylestown to Ardmore!

Check out our How to Ride page for tips. Don't forget - we now offer FREE TRANSFERS on transit and kids under 12 ride FREE! We also now accept credit cards for payment on Regional Rail - and if you have a TransPass on your SEPTA Key card - it becomes an Anywhere TrailPass on weekends and holidays! Your trip is covered!

We have also introduced a new way to pay for fares with your phone! Available in the official SEPTA App - SEPTA Key Tix is THE new and convenient way to pay for transit using your smartphone on bus, trolley, the Broad Street Line (BSL), Market Frankford Line (MFL), and Norristown High Speed Line (NHSL)! SEPTA Key Tix also gives people traveling together the capability to “scan once” by activating up to 5 one-way tickets to pay fares for up to five riders using a single barcode.
