National Senior Citizens Day

August 18, 2023

We are lucky to have such a thoughtful, experienced, and motivating generation who are always exemplary role models and leaders for our younger generation. So today, we honor the seniors in our lives [or on your bus, train, or trolley] through acts of kindness [please remember to give seats to seniors or help them on or off our transit system] by spending a little extra time or picking up the phone to check on our loved ones.

SEPTA cares for its senior citizens and offers senior riders - 65 and older – FREE transportation every day with a valid SEPTA Key Senior Fare Card.

Seniors with a valid Senior Fare Card ride free at all times on all routes for bus - trolley - Broad Street Line - Market-Frankford Line and the Norristown High Speed Line. Regional Rail is free as long as the departure and arrival stations are located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. For trains to or from New Jersey or Delaware - half fare is charged. The reduced fare may be paid on board the train at the time of travel using cash or credit card.

SEPTA offers two options for Seniors to apply or renew their cards:

- Legislative District Offices – Seniors can renew an existing SEPTA Key Senior Fare card or apply for a new card at participating State Senate and State House district offices.  Legislative staff will process your renewal or new application – taking a picture, if necessary – and SEPTA will mail a new card directly to you in 3-4 weeks.

- SEPTA Headquarters – For those who need to renew their card immediately, in person, same-day card renewals are available at SEPTA Headquarters: 1234 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA  19107.  Appointments can be scheduled Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM:
